Vivekananda (1863 -1902) was an ascetic in the service of India and its people. He carried the message of Vedantic philosophy to the Western world. Named Narendra by his parents, he was intelligent and by nature a leader. In his spiritual quest, only Shri Ramakrishna could satisfy his queries and win his devotion.

He formed an organization of Shri Ramakrishna's disciples for service of the people. He was invited to attend the World Conference of Religions in Chicago in 1893, where he won the hearts of the Americans whom he addressed as 'Brothers and Sisters'.
