The Queen's Necklace

Amar Chitra Katha Comic Books Series

Gautama was born a prince in northern India over 2500 years ago. He left a comfortable palace life, a young wife and infant son to search for true knowledge. After years of wandering and meditation, he became Buddha 'the Enlightened One'. He taught compassion, non-violence and need for right conduct. His teachings spread far and wide including China and South-east Asia.

Jataka stories are about the 'seekers of truth'. Their characters include animals and humans. In this story, a monkey carries away a queen's necklace. The first suspect seized is a woodcutter who points to a priest, who in turn accuses a musician and finally a dancer, who firmly denies the theft. An intelligent officer tricks the monkeys and recovers the necklace.
A fisherman not wanting to share an unexpected big catch, loses it all.
A hawker wanting to buy a gold bowl as trash puts it off till the next day, only to find an honest hawker has bought it.
